Chat management bots

We understand that not everyone can afford to make a custom bot, or keep their admins online.
We understand you perfectly, and we don't judge 🙂

That's why we've selected the top 4 bots that can help you. We'll tell you how to set them up, what functionality they have, and in some cases, point you towards their GitHub and self-hosting instructions.

Warning: this article is written very technically and has a lot of jargon, so if something is unclear - contact Murk (link). If I have time - I'll help you with the setup. This gesture of "goodwill" from Murk is EXCLUSIVELY for Corridor partners.

Odin is my personal favourite due to its wide functionality. It has standard functions of regular bots (ban, mute, warn…), as well as specialised ones – /kang to save a sticker to your pack, Captcha to catch other unauthorised bots and so on.

A very interesting bot, but it has one major drawback:
Lack of localisation, both Ukrainian and russian.

Since the code of this bot is based on a fork of the Kigyō bot, it's open source. Therefore, I'm currently working on localisation and furry-fication of this bot so that everyone interested can use it.

In principle, if you know English and understand that you need cool functionality – I recommend it.
For everyone else – there are alternatives that are more understandable and simpler in functionality.

Odin's capabilities

What about self-hosting?

It's very simple here – it doesn't require a super-duper server. It can be hosted on any Linux machine that's connected to the internet and doesn't go too mad with Python.

Instructions and code are on GitHub: https://github.com/OdinRobot/OdinRobot

Also quite a powerful bot, but without the possibility of self-hosting. Used by many chats and has paid functionality. Lots of information is available on their website, including a list of chats that have allowed it to manage them.

On the downside – authorisation on the website is mandatory for admins. It really wants you, dear admin, to go to its website and authorise with your Telegram there. And what will it do with your authorisation key afterwards? God knows.

Regarding the origin of this bot – we don't know, but we can see that Russians use it perfectly well, and it was often mentioned in various "sber guides" and other Russian rubbish.
But it's also used by our Ukrainian channels. Therefore, we can't recommend it for now.

But since it's one of the largest bots for chat management and has quite wide functionality – we have to mention it in this list "for the tick box".

There's no point looking for GitHub – the closest thing there is a bot for IRC.
That's not our topic.

I won't leave a link, you all know where to find it anyway.

A classic. What every ordinary person needs.
A bot that has everything you need, except for some geeky things, like in Odin, for example.
Works brilliantly. Works as it should. And this is the bot trusted by a million (!!!) users already.

The good: There's native Ukrainian and Russian localisation.
There are content filters, though they're under a paid subscription.
Quite intuitive in setup and customisation.
The person who made and maintains this bot is located (and possibly was born) in Italy.

The BAD:
As always – wants money for advanced features.
No self-hosting possibilities.
Closed source code.

But considering that people really trust it a lot, as a basic minimum – it'll do.

A veteran amongst group managers. That same old bot that was everywhere once, and is still being used to this day. The most popular (2.4 MILLION USERS!!!) amongst all of them.
Yes. Our favourite Miss Rose.
Very customisable, very interesting, but very troublesome to set up.

Amongst the functionality: creating federations, custom greetings, anti-spam\flood and so on.
Can be cloned and customised even without programming knowledge. That's a plus.
Honestly, they have quite a clear guide on the website – feel free to familiarise yourself with it.

Code is closed, but doesn't ask for money either – all functionality is free.
Basic average, and if you customise it – then basic maximum, I'd even say that.
